Journey
Liam's
Liam is a 4-year-old boy who was born with Spina Bifida. He was born June 13th 2019 at 38 weeks gestation. When his mom, Ashlyn was pregnant with Liam her and her husband found out when she was only 20 weeks pregnant that Liam had Spina Bifida. The doctors in her hometown believed that Liam had the worst case of Spina Bifida. They gave them two options to either terminate the pregnancy or to have fetal surgery at Children's Hosptial of Philadelphia. Termination wasn't an option for them so they were referred to CHOP. When they went to CHOP and got all the testing done for fetal surgery, they found out that Liam's Spina Bifida wasn't as bad as the doctors said back home. The specialist at CHOP said that Liam will be perfect and that he is. When Liam was only 1 day old he received surgery to remove his "sac". He spent 2 weeks in the NICU to help him heal from surgery. Due to the spina bifida he also develop hydrocephalus so he had to get a shunt at only a month old. He recently just got his 3rd surgery to help his spine grow with him. Liam is a walking, talking, running, funny, crazy little boy today. He is a walking miracle and he lights up any room he goes into. Spina bifida doesn't define him it makes him who he is today.
